Privacy policy
Privacy policy.
Plain language, no fine print. Telepad runs on your Mac and nothing it handles leaves it.
On this page
The short version
- No account, no sign-in.
- No data collected, nothing sent anywhere.
- No analytics, ads or third-party code.
- Your script and settings stay on your Mac.
What Telepad collects
Nothing. Telepad does not collect, record, or transmit personal data. It has no account system, makes no network connections, and contains no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or other third-party SDKs. We never receive your script, your settings, or any information about how you use the app.
What is stored on your Mac
So the app remembers where you left off, Telepad saves your script text and your settings (for example speed, text size, strip size and position, text colour, background opacity, and the on/off switches in the Command Center). This is kept only on your Mac, in the app’s preferences (macOS UserDefaults) inside the app’s sandbox container. It is never uploaded.
Purchases and subscriptions
If you buy a Telepad subscription or unlock, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple’s App Store. Telepad itself does not collect your payment information or your purchase history, and it makes no network connections of its own. Apple processes purchases under its own privacy policy: Apple Privacy Policy. See also the Terms of Use.
Microphone
Telepad uses the microphone only if you turn on Voice-Activated mode, so the script can scroll while you speak and pause when you stop.
- Audio is analysed on your Mac, in real time, only to measure the sound level and decide whether you are speaking.
- Audio is not recorded, saved, transcribed, or transmitted.
- macOS asks for your permission the first time. You can turn it off at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone. Without it, everything except Voice-Activated mode still works.
Files
Telepad does not scan or index your files. If a version of the app lets you open a script from a file, it reads only the file you pick in the standard macOS open dialog.
Children
Because Telepad collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.
Deleting your data
There is no server-side copy to delete, because nothing is ever sent to us. Everything Telepad saves is on your Mac:
- Quit and delete the app, and
- to remove its saved script and settings, delete its container folder,
~/Library/Containers/com.telepad.app. In Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder and paste that path.
This website
This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no third-party scripts, fonts, or trackers; its fonts are served from the site itself. The only thing it stores in your browser is your display choices, using localStorage on your own device: your light or dark theme, and your pause-motion setting, and only after you use those buttons. That data is never sent to us.
The site is hosted on Vercel. As with most hosting providers, Vercel may record standard server request logs when pages are served. We do not add any analytics or tracking of our own.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Changes to what the app does with data would also be described in the app’s release notes.
