  2. Paste your script.Paste or type it into the script box in the Command Center, then press Apply & Play. Or turn on Voice-Activated and it scrolls only while you speak.
  3. Read, and stay in control.Look at the lens and read. The shortcuts below work in any app, so you can pause, change speed, or hide the strip without leaving your call or recording.

Frequently asked questions

Basics

How do I open the Command Center?

Press ⌥⌘T (Option + Command + T) from any app. You can also use the Telepad icon in the menu bar and choose Open Command Center, or open Telepad again from the Dock or Applications.

How do I move or resize the strip?

Move: drag the strip. Resize: use the Strip Width and Strip Height sliders in the Command Center. To put it back in the default place, press Snap to Notch in the Command Center, or choose Reposition Under Notch from the menu bar icon.

I have more than one display. Where does the strip go?

The strip pins to the display that has the notch. On a Mac without a notch, it pins to the top of the main display.

The strip is covering my menu bar icons. What can I do?

The strip sits at the top of the screen, over the menu bar, so a wide strip can cover icons. Make it narrower with the Strip Width slider in the Command Center, or press ⇧H to hide it and show it again when you need it. You can also drag it, or use Snap to Notch to reset its position.

Where are my script and settings saved?

On your Mac only, in the app’s preferences inside its sandbox container (~/Library/Containers/com.telepad.app). They come back the next time you open Telepad. Nothing is uploaded. See the privacy policy.

Voice-Activated mode

How does Voice-Activated mode work?

Turn on Voice-Activated in the Command Center. Telepad then listens to your microphone and scrolls while you are speaking, and pauses when you stop. Use the Mic Sensitivity slider so room noise does not trigger it.

Audio is analysed on your Mac in real time, only to detect whether you are speaking. It is not recorded, saved, transcribed, or sent anywhere.

Telepad cannot hear me. What do I check?

macOS asks for microphone permission the first time. If you said no, or want to change it, open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and switch Telepad on. Then check that the correct input is selected in System Settings › Sound › Input, and raise Mic Sensitivity if the text does not move when you speak.

Screen sharing

What does “Hidden from Screen Share” do?

It is a checkbox in the Command Center, on by default. When it is on, Telepad asks macOS to exclude the strip from screen sharing and recording, so people on the call should see your screen without the strip.

Support depends on the capture app and your macOS version, so test your setup first: start a recording or a call with a second participant, share your screen, and check what they see. If you would rather the strip be captured, turn the checkbox off.

Setup

What are the system requirements?

macOS 13 or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. It is designed for MacBooks with a notch, and it also works on Macs without one.

How do I uninstall Telepad?

Quit Telepad (choose Quit from its menu bar icon, or press ⌘Q), then drag it from Applications to the Trash. To remove its saved script and settings as well, delete ~/Library/Containers/com.telepad.app.
